Profile
Ken Wilson and his family have been Markham residents for the past 24 years and are very happy to announce Ken's recent decision to enter the race
for Regional Councillor in Markham in the upcoming November 13, 2006 Municipal Election.
After serving for 35 years as a Toronto Police Constable, Ken decided to retire at a time when he would still be able to enjoy his retirement and also increase his volunteer efforts within his community.
One
area in which he has been heavily involved in for many years from 1986 to
present, is with the Markham Soccer Club. He started as a coach in the House
League, and went on to become a member of the Board of Directors. He has assisted
in special programs within the club, including training and conditioning clinics
and is now involved, in conjunction with the York Regional Police and
Firefighters, in a very unique program designed to accommodate "At
Risk" children within the community. He has also recently become a member
of the Markham Sports Council.
Ken's involvement within his community and
beyond, have been very rewarding for him and have earned him several awards for his efforts.
-
In 1998 Ken received the "Deputy Chief Wm.H.Kerr Annual Award for Motorcycle Excellence with the Toronto Police Service, Winged Wheels" for his contribution in raising funds for the Special Olympics.
-
In 1999 he received the "Chief of Police Excellence Award" recognizing his distinguished efforts within the Community.
-
Ken received a "Humanitarian Award" in 2001 in recognition of his courage and compassion toward people in need.
-
In 2002 he received another "Chief of Police Excellence Award" for his professional and compassionate efforts in assisting the families of the New York City Police Officers whose lives were taken on Sept 11, 2001.
-
In 2005 Deputy Mayor Frank Scarpitti presented Ken with an award from the Markham Soccer Club for his outstanding service and dedication to the Club and to the game of Soccer.
Ken has always shown a passion for helping people whether it be by mentoring and/or
raising funds in aid of worthwhile causes. To this end he has had the privilege of working with many fine organizations over the years. Ken has worked with the Red Cross to raise funds for the victims of Katrina. He has assisted in programmes with Variety Village. He has worked with the Special Olympics for 15 years, and has climbed the CN Tower twice raising funds for The Canadian Wildlife Federation.
It
is therefore a natural progression since his retirement, that
Ken wants to devote his time and energy to help all of the Residents and Businesses in
Markham.
